In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Process

  • Step.1

    Ovarian Stimulation

The IVF journey begins with ovarian stimulation, a carefully monitored process in which fertility medications are administered to encourage the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Throughout this phase, your IVF doctor will closely monitor your progress with regular blood tests and ultrasounds to ensure the optimal timing for egg retrieval. Medication stimulation generally takes 10-14 days to help the ovaries produce multiple mature eggs for fertilization.

  • Step.2

    Egg Retrieval and Collection

Once the eggs are ready, your IVF doctor will proceed with the egg retrieval phase, a minimally invasive procedure performed under light sedation to ensure your comfort. Guided by ultrasound, a fine needle is carefully inserted through the vaginal wall to retrieve the mature eggs directly from the ovaries. The entire process typically takes about 15-30 minutes. On the same day, a sperm sample is collected from the partner or donor. The sperm is then processed in the lab to select the healthiest and most motile sperm for fertilization.

    Step.2

  • Step.3

    Fertilization and Embryo Development

After retrieval, the eggs are fertilized with sperm in a specialized laboratory. Fertilization occurs via Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg. Once fertilized, the embryos are monitored for growth and development for 5 to 6 days until they reach the blastocyst stage.

  • Step.4

    Embryo Transfer

The next stage involves transferring the best-quality embryos into the uterus. This is a quick, minimally invasive procedure performed in the clinic without sedation. Using a fine catheter, the embryo is gently placed in the uterus, where it can implant and begin growing.

    Step.4

  • Step.5

    Pregnancy Test

Approximately 10-14 days after the embryo transfer, you will undergo a blood test to determine if implantation has occurred and if the IVF cycle was successful. This test measures hCG levels, the hormone produced during pregnancy. If successful, further ultrasounds and monitoring will follow to confirm a healthy pregnancy. If unsuccessful, your IVF doctor will review the results and discuss next steps or additional treatments.

1.

Matching with a Surrogate Mother

The first and most important step in the surrogacy journey is finding the perfect surrogate. At Lemontree, we work closely with intended parents to match them with a surrogate mother who aligns with their values and expectations. We consider factors like medical history, personality, and lifestyle to ensure a compatible match. Once both parties feel comfortable, the match is formalized, and the process moves forward.

2.

Review of Surrogate Mother’s OB Medical Records

After a successful match, we collect and submit the surrogate mother’s OB medical records to IVF center. These records will be thoroughly reviewed by your IVF doctor. This review assesses her pregnancy history, delivery outcomes, and any underlying conditions to ensure she can safely carry the pregnancy. This vital step minimizes potential risks and ensures a healthy environment for the baby.

3.

Pre-Screening Process

Once the medical records are approved, the surrogate undergoes comprehensive pre-screening tests to confirm her overall health. These screenings include:

  • Prenatal bloodwork: To check for any health concerns that could impact pregnancy
  • Infectious disease screening: To prevent any transferable diseases
  • Drug screening: To ensure the surrogate is free from substance use
  • Sonohysterogram (SIS): An ultrasound that evaluates the uterus to ensure it’s healthy and prepared for embryo transfer
  • Psychological evaluation: To assess the surrogate’s mental and emotional readiness to carry a pregnancy, ensuring she is prepared for the journey both emotionally and psychologically

These tests provide an additional layer of assurance, ensuring the surrogate is physically ready for the next steps.

4.

Legal Process

A key aspect of surrogacy is establishing a clear legal agreement. Lemontree will guide both the intended parents and the surrogate through the legal process, ensuring that all terms are clearly outlined and agreed upon. Each party will have their own legal representation, and the contract will cover key areas such as parental rights, financial arrangements, and medical decisions. This legal framework provides protection and peace of mind for everyone involved.

5.

Embryo Transfer

With all legal and medical preparations complete, the process advances to the embryo transfer. The intended parents’ embryo(s) will be transferred into the surrogate mother’s uterus in a minimally invasive procedure. The procedure is performed at a certified IVF clinic under the supervision of fertility specialists. After the transfer, the surrogate’s health and progress are monitored closely to ensure the best chance of a successful pregnancy.
